Working while sick

I've been sick now going on a week and a half. Started out mild, just tired and mucle pain. Escalated to constant cough, mega sore throat, and near 0 energy.

I took one semi day off, I say semi because I still responded to slacks and emails.

My wife is pissed. She's been pushing me to take sick days. Especially since we have unlimited PTO.

It's not that I'm discouraged from taking time off at all. My boss is all about taking advandage of the unlimited PTO. Most departments do. I don't.

This month, I've got 3MM in my pipeline likely to close plus multiple in person visits I have to prep for. I have to be on top of everything to make sure these deals come through. My personal sales method is very much relationship based so I try to make sure I'm as involved as possible.

I know I'm not the only one that does this. In fact, of all professions, I would assume sales is the one profession that works through illness the most.

Any tips on how to give my immune system the kick in the ass it needs? Have a client dinner in 6 days and I don't want to show up coughing.

If you insist on working, nap whenever you can. Not epic 2 hour ones, but rest will be the key.

Get to bed early when you wrap up and unplug in the evennigs.

Feel better!

I do need to be better about napping. Tried it yesterday but had 8 zoom meetings so it was a day full of anxiety constantly checking my phone to make sure I wasn't over sleeping.

Yep, I agree. Get rid of your excuses for seeing a doctor. Don't let it turn into pneumonia.

Take the time to get better.

1-2 days of rest will go a hell of a lot further than fighting it for 1-2 weeks and dragging the sickness out.

In regards to tips for kicking the immune system into high gear - EmergenC for a huge Vitamin C boost, Raw Ginger to help with immune system and Raw Honey to help with your sore throat.

I need to get me some ginger, native buddy of mine taught me a recipe for ginger tea that cured sore throats within hours. Thanks for the reminder!

sam, take a day off. i guarantee you your pipeline will NOT fall apart. take one day off and commit hard core to resting. take all the meds you need.

see how you feel.

The worst thing you can do is try and push through and then have it get worse and have to cancel the meeting in 6 days

Sorry to hear about that. Give yourself rest and mind some peace. I know itโ€™s difficult said than done but thatโ€™s the only way around. Gargling with warm water + salt helps me instantly for my sore throat, not sure if it will suit you.

Love the work ethic, but you're probably doing more harm than good. Take two days off to get well, or keep pushing and it will take two weeks to get back to 100%.
