Enterprise SDR Tips and Best Practices?

Hi there!

I would love to get some tips on how to set more (and better quality) meetings. My numbers have been extremely low lately, and it's starting to really concern me.

My email open rates aren't great (click/response rates are even worse), makes me wonder if I'm running into their firewall. Kinda feel like the personalization I add to my emails goes to waste because nobody is reading them. I also keep hearing "we don't have the bandwidth nor budget to bring on new technologies" when I catch someone on the phone. Sometimes I get told off for reaching out to them (business leaders) instead of vendor management/procurement.

For context, I'm in B2B Software Sales, selling mostly to IT personas (but sometimes to LOBs like Finance and HR too). Our definition of Enterprise companies refers to $1.4B revenue and above. Not gonna specify what exactly our platform does in case my boss is on this app lol.

I've tried using LinkedIn messaging as well, but haven't gotten many replies. I've even recorded a few videos of myself (which include a dual-screen presentation in the background), but the only kind of replies I get are "I really respect the hustle, but no."

Running out of ideas here 😅 I would love to hear about how you structure your day, cold call scripts, email templates, or how you go about prospecting/generating warmer leads. Any and all advice is welcome 🫶🏼

Spray and pray models rarely work. And email prospecting at best sucks.

Targeted cold calling, knowing the type of buyer you’re looking for, has always worked best for me. Use LI the identify the people and reach out to them. Tell them who else you’re working with, the results, and ask if they’d to know more. At least that is what works for me.

Agree with this. I’ve booked waaaay more meetings through calls than any other channel. Write down every objection you get so you’re ready to handle and fire away.

Sometimes you just gotta pick up the phone. Everyone has become numb to emails.

Hi X,

I’ve been speaking with (title/focus) leaders like you about improving operational efficiency via (solution).

They’ve mentioned that… (common pain points and challenges)

For context, we provide… (one or two sentences about product)

Does your team have a tool like that already?

If email outbound were toilet paper, this would be the softest, fluffiest roll available on sale cheap. You don’t come off as a subject matter anything. It’s just fishing, or wiping… as it were.

Hi {Goober},
Do you know {name}? he’s got your title at {direct competitor}. He called because his {pain}, looking for {pain gone} using {process improvement solution}.

{solution} solved. It yielded {x result}, {y-result}, and {Z result}.

With results like that, I assume you would have deployed a {solution thing} by now. If not, I’d like to show you ours.

Any reason you wouldn’t take a look?

This is great.
Personalizing and showing tangible results will always produce best results. A question I always ask is, does this feel like an email anyone could send? If the answer is anywhere close to yes then it's too generic.

Beyond @oldcloser absolute belter of an email (for the US lot, this is a compliment), you could try a few things.

1) bottoms up approach: messaging power users and driving pain up to leadership
2) top-down approach: messaging leadership with an ROI based message

To optimize on time:
1) when messaging BLT (below the line) focus on quick fire messages that are around functionality and how they can do their job better
2) when messaging ATL (above the line) focus on well-researched problems that focus on something the company is trying to approve

If you already work with a well known IT Leader - Google their name and pick a quote:

“Hey Mr prospect, I read a quote from John (HEAD OF IT AT ABC), where he mentioned (solving problem) was a key initiative; would I be right in assuming you’re also trying to solve this?

John actually used (company name) to help him XYZ and thus far has seen (results)

Worth discussing further?”

Something along these lines

P.s if you’re still getting the same results, your company had ZERO PMF, so pack up and leave

Structure: F. K. D. - Finder (outbound) keeper (follow ups) doer (demos, appts, etc.) respond to emails in the morning before the day and at night after the day don’t constantly check it throughout the day 3 hrs of cold calling, 3 hrs of follow ups 3 hours of appts or training and getting better

Outreach has to focus on their pain and your outcomes... not selling.
