How many pipeline reviews per week do you have? I'll start...

8. my pipeline/forecast is reviewed 8 times per week.
-first thing in the morning, every morning we have a standup and need to give our commit for the day/week/month. together as a team
-then I have a 1:1 with manager and I do the same exact thing essentially. micro manage every deal and each step ("when is the last time you emailed them?")
- same exact thing as above^ except we get together as a team for an hour and everyone goes around doing the same as the 1:1.
- same exact thing as above^ except the following day!!
craziest part is that all of the info gathered is right there in plain text on Salesforce. we just read notes off to the manager. that's it.

how insane do you find this on a scale of 1 to Adam neumann?

i mean......this is the most insane thing ive ever heard when it comes to pipe review. what the FUCK do they think will change so fast that they need this many updates??

Also THIS IS WHY WE HAVE A CRM!!!!

Anything more than that is bonkers and a waste of time. Your manager has access to your pipeline and as long as you’re keeping your Salesforce up to date, there’s no excuse for that. Other than your manager to pretend to stay busy as opposed to helping you in other ways.

Sorry about that. Maybe something to bring up on a QBR.

Same here, and agree with the sentiment. Hard to do the work moving that pipeline forward if you’re spending the whole week just talking about it!

imagine you want to read a book that is on the table and instead of you reading it yourself, you ask me to read it to you? Why on earth would I do that.

i highly think it is the former. my manager is constantly repeating everything. ever day, every week, every meeting. it is all just repeat repeat repeat. idk what this person would do without these meetings that overlap and are clones of eachother

We do this once a week with the team and individually with managers - though our sales cycle is not very long. Micromanagement - something I cannot tolerate.

3-4 “officially” depending on the week, 5 if you count the 1-1 that almost always turns into a pipe review anyway. We also have 1-2 a day for the last 1-2 weeks of quarter. Would be 10+ if you also include Slack messages requesting updates.

On an unrelated note, I’m resigning at the end of quarter despite being the top performer by a very wide margin. Ah, the wonders of micromanagement.

For my team - its a constant review process with a daily RFP meeting for active bids (with the RFP writing team), and then 3x/week scheduled Team meetings (which often get cancelled). But if anything is pressing, you're expected to raise up. Basically my team's all professionals with 15-25 years experience. We all know how to run things.

How long is your sales cycle? And is your quota monthly?

I do 1:1 once/week. More frequent touch base if something is getting into a more frequent cadence to close. But I have a long sales cycle, with an annual quota, and quarterly goals.

Meeting more frequently would drive me nuts.

short cycle and we are on monthly but imo it should not matter. if the information you are seeking as a manager is written in black and white, why are you having me repeat it to you.

Oh, there was definitely a lot of repetition there.

I used to have to update Google Docs, Smartsheet and SFDC. Drove me around the bend. ALL THE INFO IS IN THE CRM.

I could understand more frequent TB with your manager if you are on a monthly quota, but more to talk about where you're stuck and get a sense for your input on the information in the CRM. But I totally understand.

We have pipeline calls once a week and I will occasionally do impromptu pipeline reviews with my manager on our 1 on 1's. This seems like insane micromanagement

I would simply lose allllllllll of my marbles, this is insane. I have a 30 minute meeting once a week where I tell him where everything is at & that's it. Like if you're reviewing things multiple times a day, do they expect things to change between each of those reviews.. Im confused. My condolences to you!!!

Once per quarter.

Your upper management knows you have more important work to do than to update a glorified spreadsheet, right?

Should be one a week and perhaps mentioned in the 1:1 briefly. I hold my board reviews weekly and ask the same set of questions without change. How much you have in? What is your gap to quota? Who are you meeting with this week to move up in the funnel, or close? How can I help you with any opportunities in your funnel. What the 3 things you are doing to make your pipeline better for next week? ****Fast forward to next week**** Did you complete those 3 things? If yes, great. If not, what stopped you and is there anything I could have helped with? (repeat questions from above)

I’m sorry but why are you asking how much is in and what is the gap when it is right there on the CRM? Or do you not use one? Are your reps the only ones who know what their numbers are and it is written on a piece of paper in their pocket?

Great question. It's a way to verify the data in the CRM. I've seen some crazy things happen and it helps verify the data so everyone is on the same page. CRM is SFDC

That is the fucking dumbest thing I've ever heard of? 8 times? What is your sales cycle, 1 hour? At my last company we about four reviews with each being just a little different but the same information seemed to get covered. That was too much. But 8? No fucking way.

I literally laughed out loud at the 1 hour part 😭. I just honestly don't believe in pipeline reviews or forecasts since we pay 10's of thousands of dollars for software that shows this. You wanna know where deal x is at? Check the god damn crm. Wanna know when I last called? Same shit. READ. I interviewed with a VP recently and he said he will never ask about your pipeline or forecast if it's in the crm. Punching the air about them not hiring me.
