I have been in sales for 6 years- but never a traditional role.

I have been in sales for a bit now and have sold millions of dollars worth of products and services. The only thing is that I have never been a part of a true sales organization. I have never had metrics I needed to hit or numbers discussed this way, partially because I am constantly killing it. However, I have struggled to apply to other roles, as my experience is not traditional. I would appreciate any thoughts on the best way to approach this.

I am not actively looking for a role, but I am concerned that I will not be prepared if that time ever does come.

What type of org do you work for that you sell millions in product, but still don’t consider it sales?

haha definitely consider it sales, just never an official sales org. For example, boutique consulting services, where I am working with customers on a daily, selling to them, but have no structured sales organization.

Ok, got it. This is completely translatable. No sales leader should think twice so long as you have the ability to articulate your performance.

Sounds like a great way to have learned a lot. This will translate well IMO

Sounds like you’re a builder who’s been building in orgs that build. Put a fine point to presenting yourself as such and you’re in play.

Key comment: "I am constantly killing it." At the end of the day, we are paid for results.

I’m the world of sales true talent recognizes talent. You may not have a formal name for it or structured framework, but you’ve got the results. Figure out how to best articulate how you work to get those results and it won’t be difficult to find a new role should that become necessary.
