What’s the difference between a functional demo and a technical demo (SaaS)

basically the question. my sense is functional higher level and more focused on the functionality and how it's tied to outcomes where as technical gets into nitty gritty of setup and technical configuration.

I guess it just depends on who you are presenting to. Is it a front-end user or is it a backend(IT) user? I guess that's where my line is lightly drawn.

Well, I’m doing both, first is more business stakeholders and thus functional and my understanding. I’m probably 95% sure I’m right but wanted to check here.

Well then yeah, the front-end user is functional and the backend user is technical as they need to know the ins and outs behind the scenes.

You've basically got it covered with what you wrote. Usually audience-specific

Your breakdown sounds about right, why the need to differentiate? Would it be a different presenter if so?

Based on your definition it looks right. We don't differentiate but yes we have 2 set of audience - leadership and actual users and they both look at different outcomes

Your summary seems right. Just clarify who your audience is and which is it they need to see to validate your solution. I'm sure you know this but figured it's better to over communicate :)

Yep. Common. Your business owners want to see how your solution works to meet their requirements and goals. The tech team needs to validate things like security, integrations, architecture. They’re frequently separated due to differing responsibilities.

It depends on who the demo is for and what is showcased. Functional is how to solve the issue/problem. Technical is how it can work togheter with outher systens. API's etc
