How do you buy Tech?

It's an interesting thing I wanted to hear out from the community,

-What are the questions you would ask before buying Tech for your Sales?

-Who would you trust to do your Due Diligence?

-What would you do to Propose a case from your bosses/leaders?

All in all, what would be an ideal buying experience for purchasing tech would like for you?

Likely the wrong audience..

You need an AMA from a buyer.

Maybe @sahilcan set some more of these up. We know there's appetite.

So that means you have Zero Control over the Tools you use every day(not your boss)...?

@revgeeknot sure if that zero control comment was directed towards me or @SADNESSLieutenant....

I work at a small, but growing, company. I'm not purchasing sales tools/software every week.. I bought a new one the other week, went through a demo, liked it, and there's no minimum contract length so I just gave it a shot.

But I'm not changing or expanding my tech stack every fucking day. What sales leaders do you think do that?!

I directed you towards that AMA because that's someone who has in the C-Suite at a massive financial institution with ~100,000 employees.

I never intended to direct anything against anyone @jefemy apologies if I offended you or @SADNESSLieutenantin any way...just trying to learn here.

I agree that Tech Stacks do not change much frequently, also I don't really intend to hear from anyone at a ~100,000 employees business anyway...That's why I loved your input instead : )

to answer your question

1. some kind of referall - someone already using it or has used it and spoken highly of it
2. goes to website
3. clearly articulated price and use case
4. easy demo scheduling
5. clear use case at company
6. clear need
7. budget = bought

I read something that said that 80% of the buying process is done online/linkedin/the website before anyone even buys and I think that's fair.

If im gonna buy a car first I do a general search or ask around my friends what they recommend, then I go peruse websites or dealerships, and the car I have the best overall experience and fit/need for I go for. Not sure how similair it is with tech sales but I have directed some small scale software purchase decisions. I had to make a excel sheet with other possible vendors and solutions, costs, and use cases and compare and contrast them to the CEO to get them to buy.

as an AE i really dont have too much say. if I think we need to buy something, its because I see a problem we have and have had friends at other companies tell me how they solve it.

Then i look into that company and learn as much as i can (On my own with no help from their sales team)

Then ill go to my boss and make a case for why this would help us.

if they are on board then i go inbound to the company and set up a discovery call /demo.
