When is it time to look for a new role?

I've advanced consistently in my role from SDR to Senior Closer over the last decade. my company only has an offering for SMB and the first level management role doesn't make enough for me to want to advance up into that role.

Now that I've been a top IC for a few years how should I look elsewhere as I want to grow my earning potential? Putting "Open to work" on LinkedIn doesn't seem to be the right move after all. Should I look for a mid market role in a different industry?

I'm good at what I do, I love the company I work for, but its time to make more money than beating quota year over year can get me here.

The time to look is when you are coming to an anonymous forum to ask if it is time to start looking.

Have that conversation and sell yourself to your company/superiors before you have to go doing it for another. The market is brutal. CYA with data and comps. Show your value. Youโ€™ll have to do it for another so you might as well do it for them. Especially since you like where youโ€™re at.

Even though the Market is brutal, there are still a lot of opportunities that you can try for. After all, all you need is 1 job.

But as fuzzy mentioned, have a word within you current org and self before taking a leap of faith.
If you have been a top performer, I am sure they wouldnโ€™t want you gone.

Moreover, understand what you want? If you like the company and the product, try to grow there if youโ€™re done with it - look out.

Normally my answer to this question is 'when you ask it', but I think @fuzzy is really onto something.

There's not a bad time to look around and see what's out there.
Do you have an idea of what you're looking for?

I agree with @Justatitle response....But to play devils advocate...have you asked your current employer about bumping your salary?

It will cost them MUCH more money to hire someone to come in and fill your shoes versus giving you a raise.

Speaking as someone who left a company I loved, went to a start-up and was laid off within 8 weeks, I came crawling back to previous company and was given a raise with more responsibilities.

so if your asking about when is the right time to look for a new gig i think you have identified it.

When you have reached the ceiling for what you can accomplish at the company, and want to pursue more, thats a great sign.

Being promoted and hitting quota multiple times in a row is a really strong thing to have on your resume.

now HOW to find the next role is much harder. I know thats literally why Bravado was created so you could start by seeing what roles are posted.

If its possible to stay in the same industry or in a similar industry that would be good because then your experience is more valuable.

1. Are you happy with your compensation?
2. Are you still growing and learning?
3. Are you in a path that will set you up for the future success you're looking for?

If any of these are a no, it's not bad to look around.
