WE NEED A STRONG LEADER!!!!!

As i write this solemn, depressing warroom post. A less experienced, less qualified, less intelligent, and undeserving person is soon to be commanding my post.

BEFORE YOU COMMENT "I'd Be OuTtA ThErE"...I'M TRYING IT'S NOT EASY

going to be demoted from my SDR Management role in q2.

For performance related reasons? nope.

For what reason then? EXCELLENT QUESTION. One in which i posited to the CRO. His response: "well, we need a strong leader!"

ok cool dude. so what do we do? we hire someone with:

zero experience in our industry

zero experience managing people

a buddy of another new hire from their old company

Funny thing is, the sales team is performing like never before. 2x MRR growth month over month for 3 straight months.

A common theme of my posts lately: why do executives suck so bad?

I donโ€™t really get your situation.

You posted on the win wire about closing a deal that took you 2 years yet youโ€™re an SDR Manager and you accepted a non-answer as to why youโ€™re getting demoted without pressing harder to get the specifics of what expectations you arenโ€™t meetingโ€ฆ

Doesnโ€™t really add up.

@CadenceCombatah, so you get it.
i'm wearing a ton of hats--startup life! part of my day to day requires i close some deals. player-coach type situation. our org chart changes every few months. nothing good enough for the higher ups.

i pressed EXTREMELY hard on keeping my position.
1. asked for more money
2. wrote down my accomplishments in an effort to justify keeping me in my position
3. asked multiple questions to get to CRO's 'why.' only answer i can get is "well, we want a strong leader"

Leadership at this place is a JOKE. i used to accept it because startup life is crazy, and i'm essentially a co-founder. but i can't accept this nonsense anymore

โ€œStartup lifeโ€ is a bullshit rationale. Wearing many hats? Yeah, okay โ€œstart-up lifeโ€ but being an IC while having to manage a team at the same time is always a conflict of interest and absolute bullshit. You canโ€™t do either role effectively that way.

You donโ€™t get to keep complaining about this shit anymore because youโ€™re doing it to yourself at this point. Iโ€™ve worked for shit startups too. I know what it is.

Just do what youโ€™re told, do the bare minimum at work and put all your effort to find something else. The end.

yeah, startup executives are usually trash and don't care about you. They will just keep throwing you around until youre all used up. Best to just put on a happy face and say thank you, act positive, while you get another job. You frankly dont have any power as an employee so they can treat you however they want and get away with it.

@Diablo
my gut? style clash + punishment

his leadership style is VASTLY different than mine. he claims he wants an outside hire that's "unbiased." he also is a relationship seller. which makes me want to throw up

i took some leave right when CRO started recently for personal reasons, during crunch time in the quarter (i had a freaking kid, how dare i), and immediately upon return find out i'm not a "strong leader"....smells fishy eh?

This is insane for sure. My previous manager was fired the day he came back from vacay and he was doing just awesome. Difficulty to gauge peopleโ€™s mind.

A terrible spot to be in. To be performing and at the same time to be softly demoted is a kick in the nuts. This is a massive red flag because this means the company doesn't promote within which means regardless of how much you succeed... you're stuck. Get the bug-out bag ready.

For the remaining 20% I may think of waiting by betting on the other dude that will fail for certain that may get me reassigned for the role or even till finding a better opportunity!

Most people don't know what "strong leadership" looks like. They hire people who pound the table and bulldoze reps. That is not strength, it is fear and a scarcity mindset.
